Students in this certification program are provided with a broad and rich understanding of trauma history, theory, research, practice, and cultural implications allowing for a pursuit of specific areas of interest. Some examples of focus areas include:

- Child abuse
- Cultural displacement
- Combat and war trauma
- Innovative healing approaches
- Resiliency and prevention factors
Evaluating established and emerging global and cultural theories of traumatic stress, those who complete this program will understand the various perspectives of trauma. They will gain skills and knowledge about empirically supported, evidence-based, practical, and humanistic approaches and non-conventional approaches to healing individuals and groups. Exploring what can be done to mitigate this impact, areas to prevent, and promote healing, program graduates may employ these methods in their existing practice or branch out into new areas of healing.
