Alumna Colonel Kaffia (Belle) Jones, M.A. ’06, Ph.D. ’10 was promoted to Brigadier General on 10 September 2011 by Major General Stuart M. Dyer, Commanding General of the 335th Signal Command (Theater), based in East Point, Georgia, where Colonel Jones served as Chief of Staff for two years. The ceremony will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1976, Kaffia Jones enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC). Four years later, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned as a Signal Platoon Leader in the California Army National Guard. Since then, she has been managed communications, administrative and operations as well as commanding a company, a battalion, and a brigade in the Army Reserve. During this time, she earned her Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Psychology and spent 25 years in various positions with the California Department of Corrections. She is currently mobilized to serve as principle advisor to the Commanding General of U.S. Army Central on command, control, communications, computers, and information systems as well as Commanding General of the 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional), based in Kuwait. The 3200 Soldiers and civilians in her command build, operate, maintain, and defend the military computer network in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf.
