Saybrook University sponsored professional conferences in Mind-Body Medicine and Psychology in July in support of Saybrook faculty and students who were participating in these events.

Saybrook University Mind-Body Medicine faculty Don Moss and students Carrie Phelps and Char Conlin   attended and presented at the National Wellness Institute’s annual conference July 15-18 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. This event drew more than 600 health and wellness professionals from around the country to enhance their knowledge in a broad range of topics pertinent to this emerging field including mind-body spirit, wellness health coaching, integrative health, and nutrition. MBM PhD students Carrie Phelps and Char Conlin both have their own wellness consulting practices and presented at this event.

Saybrook University Psychology faculty Theopia Jackson, Zonya Johnson, and Alan Vaughan and students Alison Munsch, Sonasha Braxton, Yvonne Summerville, and Monica Buchanon attended the Association of Black Psychologists annual conference July 23-27 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Theopia Jackson also serves as General Assembly Chair for the organization. The following Saybrook faculty and students presented on a variety of topics:

• Zonya Johnson, PhD and Alison Munsch, MA: Cultural Competence: Implications for Leadership in Healthcare
• Alan G. Vaughan, PhD., JD: The African Diaspora and Western Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis
• Theopia Jackson, PhD and Sherri Taylor, MA: Child Abuse & Reporting Laws within an African-centered Frame
• Sonasha C Braxton, M.A/M.S, Patricia Piercy, PhD: The Creation of an EEC Therapeutic Activity Based on KhoiSan Trance Dance
• Alison Munsch (poster session): Multicultural or Mixed Race Persons’ Perceptions of the Implications of Multiculturalism and Ethnic Identity Formation on Consumer Behavior and Marketing.
