Dr. Eric Willmarth, President-Elect of ASCH

Eric Willmarth, PhD, is a member of the faculty of the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences, where he serves as Director of Training and Director of the Integrative Mental Health PhD specialization.

For the third time, Dr. Willmarth has been elected as President of a major American Hypnosis Society.  Already a past president of the American Psychological Association’s Division 30, The Society of Psychological Hypnosis, and the oldest American hypnosis Society, The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, Eric was recently chosen as President-elect of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), the largest of the primary professional hypnosis Societies in North America.

Founded by Milton H. Erickson, MD, in 1957, ASCH promotes greater acceptance of hypnosis as a clinical tool with broad applications. Today, ASCH offers professional hypnosis training workshops, certification, and networking opportunities that can enhance both professional and personal lives. ASCH membership is mostly made up of psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, mental health counselors, medical doctors, masters-level nurses, dentists and chiropractors. As an interdisciplinary organization, ASCH provides an opportunity to learn from and interact with colleagues in other health and mental health care disciplines. This allows for a cross fertilization of ideas and applications that meshes neatly with current trends, such as mind-body health and integrative medicine.

Dr. Willmarth has been actively involved with ASCH for many years.  He has served two terms as the Society’s secretary, served as Co-Chair of the Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Workshops and served as Co- Chair of the Science Program at the annual meeting.  He has taught in the Annual Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced training sessions for over 20 years as well as in a number of ASCH Regional Training sessions.  He continues to serve as the Editor for the ASCH Newsletter, serves on the Distance Education Taskforce, and is the Co-Chair of the 2016 Intermediate Training Workshops.

Eric remains active with all three of the major hypnosis Societies, serving as Editor of the Division 30 Newsletter and remaining on the Executive Committee for the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, where he will be the 2016 Co-Chair of the Basic Training Workshop and will Chair the Awards Committee.  During the past year Dr. Willmarth has been the Special Editor for an edition of the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis and has published reviews in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis.   He continues to conduct video interviews with hypnosis experts from around the world and shares these interviews on his website,
