Dr. Luann Fortune will facilitate a panel discussion on current opportunities and recent accomplishments in the practice of integrative medicine (IM) by students and recent graduates from Saybrook’s College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences.  This discussion will feature descriptions of how Saybrook IM scholar-practitioners are impacting a wide-range of fields, from health and wellness coaching to oncology medicine to education.

The College invites all Saybrook instructors, students and anyone interested in making an impact in integrative medicine and wellness to join us for this webinar.

The Panelists are:

Joshua Hendrickson, LMSW, a current CIMHS doctoral student recently launched Project Presence- a not-for-profit organization that aides school districts in enhancing social and emotional resources of faculty, staff, and students.  Project Presence provides professional development training and child development teachings for whole person development.  These teachings and practices utilize mindfulness, movement, integrative nutrition, health and wellness coaching, and narrative approaches to strengthen and support the cultivation of presence in learning relationships.

Francinne Lawrence, MRE, MSW, LICSW, a CIMHS doctoral candidate created and operates a new center for cancer survivors in Louisiana, called THRIVE.  Based on a health and wellness coaching model and supported by an array of complementary health services, the program addresses the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual concerns of cancer survivors, their families, and caregivers.  She is also the Director of Survivorship Services at Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center, Baton Rouge, LA.

Trish McKeen, MA, holds a Master’s degree in counseling and a PhD student at CIMHS. She owns and manages an outpatient mental health clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  In conjunction with her studies in Integrative Mental Health, she has introduced mind/body medicine to patients that are struggling with addiction, mental health concerns, and incarceration.  Her research investigates how inmates who are yoga practitioners come to be of service to others.  Her study seeks to link Karma Yoga (selfless service to others) and restorative justice.

Carrie Phelps, PhD, BCC, CWWS, a board certified coach, holds a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine (with a specialization in healthcare and organizational systems) from CIMHS where she also serves as adjunct faculty.  Carrie also serves on faculty for the Center for Mind-Body Medicine.  Carrie was recently appointed as a program director at the National Wellness Institute.  She is also a coach trainer and conducts coaching certification courses throughout the US.  Her mission to co-create the next evolution of health promotion that energizes well-being, expands potential, fosters fulfillment, and enriches lives.  Carrie is a cancer survivor.

Allison Winters, MA, MS, BC-DMT, LCAT, RYT, is a PhD student at CIMHS, a dance/movement therapist, certified yoga instructor, and licensed creative arts therapist.  As an experienced therapist, Allison has worked with a wide range of clientele, including adults, adolescents, and children in inpatient psychiatry, US military war veterans in both residential and outpatient settings.  She currently works with active duty military in a traumatic brain injury treatment program at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD. Allison’s published research article Emotion, Embodiment, and Mirror Neurons in Dance/Movement Therapy: A Connection Across Disciplines, has received media attention, as well as awards for both research and journalism.
