Denise Rizzolo, PhD
For the past eight years, I have been in charge of research and assessment, first at Seton Hall University (SHU) and then at Kean University (KU). I have been an on-line instructor at Pace University since 2010 and Adjunct instructor at Nova University for a year and half. My primary responsibilities at SHU were teaching students Research Methods 1, Research Methods 2 and Research Methods 3, all of which involved mentoring students through the research process. The classes covered all the tenets of research including: how write a hypothesis and research question, literature review, IRB submission, statistical analysis and finally how to write a discussion and conclusion. While at SHU almost all the students authored research projects that have been displayed at the annual American Academy of Physician Assistant (AAPA) poster presentation session. A full list of the manuscripts I have published along with my poster and presentation history is listed on my CV.
I am currently a peer reviewer for JAAPA and Clinician Reviews and served as a reviewer for the PAEA Writing Competition along with reviewing abstracts for the annual AAPA conference poster session, among others. I mentor students and colleagues on how to write manuscripts and research based articles. More recently, I have been involved in grant writing, not only with my own faculty but with faculty members across the country so I can engage in larger more collaborative projects.
My research experience is in the following areas but not limited to: survey research, quasi experimental studies, systematic research designs, case reviews and qualitative designs.
Some of my Research Interests are Listed below as well.
My dissertation work was adjunctive methods to manage stress in health science students and I am continuing to study stress management strategies for students with my colleagues at Michigan State University. I have two research projects that are accepted for publication and I am the first author: Factors that Influence a Physician Assistant/Associate Students Career Choice: An Exploratory Study of Students from the United States and United Kingdom and Physician Assistant Use of Point-of-Care Ultrasound: A Pilot Survey. I am continuing my research on ultrasound technology in Physician Assistant programs and hope to publish the data in the fall. My CV also lists other research topics that I have worked on.
