Kirwan Rockefeller, PhD, WIOA/TAA Academic Advisor at the University of California, Irvine Division of Continuing Education, is the author of "Visualize Confidence: How to Use Guided Imagery to Overcome Self-doubt," and is the co-editor of "Psychology, Spirituality and Healthcare," Volume 2 of the 3-volume series, "Whole Person Healthcare." Rockefeller served as the editor of The California Psychologist, the bi-monthly publication of The California Psychological Association from 2007-2012, and is a member of the American and California Psychological Associations.
Formerly Director of Education for the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) he has consulted with top national and entertainment organizations, including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Warner Bros., Paramount, and DreamWorks, on the accurate depiction of social and mental health issues, and addiction. He is adjunct faculty at Saybrook University in San Francisco, CA in the College of Integrative Medicine & Health Sciences and the College of Social Sciences. Rockefeller graduated from Saybrook in 1994 and his dissertation was entitled, "The context of meaning and biopsychosocial adaptations to HIV/AIDS by HIV-negative gay men: Multiple loss, reoccurring bereavement and survivor guilt." In 1993 he received Saybrook's Thuss Award for Doctoral Candidacy Essay Excellence for "Psychoneuroimmunology and HIV-positive long term survivors: A review of the literature." He teaches Imagery for Health, Spirituality and Health, Ethics and Health, Stress Management and is available to be a committee chair/member.
He has research experience in narrative inquiry, grounded theory, mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative), including survey design, semi-structured interviews, case studies, participant observation, thematic coding, and phenomenology. His research interests center on guided imagery, public and personal narrative, personal mythology, creativity, spirituality, LGBT-affirmative psychology, media and social psychology, psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), integrative medicine and leadership development.
He lives in Newport Beach, California.
