I recently joined Saybrook University as Counseling Faculty after serving as Teaching Faculty at Antioch University, Seattle in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I graduated from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology: Community Counseling (2012) and am a fourth year doctoral student at Oregon State University in Counselor Education and Supervision where I study issues related to social justice and multicultural competence, specifically related to intimate partner violence and technology assisted counseling and counselor education. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Distance Credentialed Counselor.
Prior to becoming a counselor and counselor educator, I worked as an interior architectural designer for several architecture firms in the Pacific Northwest specializing in affordable and public housing as well as civic projects such as homeless shelters, substance abuse treatment facilities, and transitional housing. Through this work I had the opportunity to engage meaningfully and collaboratively with families and communities using the buildings I helped to design, as well as with the community agencies working to support their wellness and recovery. This personal engagement opened the door to a return to graduate school and a career change to counseling and counselor education where I could have a more direct impact on the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. I currently live with my family in Olympia, Washington where I do clinical supervision and consultation. In addition, I have clinical experience in a range of settings, including community agencies, court mandated domestic violence services, and private practice. My clinical orientation is a blend of Interpersonal and Community Psychology, and social justice advocacy is a strong component of my work. As such, I enjoy teaching all clinical mental health counseling courses, with particular emphasis on courses which prepare counselors to serve as both advocates and healers
