Life Meets Learning
Our students find a way to strike a balance between their careers, coursework, and personal lives while pursuing their degree from Saybrook University. You can find the same balance.
One great example of a student who was able to do this is Diana Rivera who earned a M.A. in Psychology, with a focus in Creativity Studies and then transitioned right into our Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology program. She appreciated how her studies at Saybrook positively impact her daily work.
While at Saybrook Diana found a way to balance it all. By day, she was and still is a dedicated teaching artist at Inner City Arts, an oasis of learning in the heart of Los Angeles’ Skid Row district. By night she found time to be a student and run her coaching business where she counsels and teaches professional development to artists, arts educators, and other professionals from a variety of industries.
“Saybrook enabled me to fuse my passions for the arts, education, and psychology, and gave me skills that set me apart in my coaching work. My mentoring faculty challenged me to think like a scholar, to conduct research with rigor, and to be a creative in a world in real need of it.”
With her degrees in hand Diana hopes to teach at a university while continuing to manage her coaching business alongside a part-time psychotherapy practice. She also hopes to publish a children’s book and a popular text in the area of creativity studies.
Diana is proof that nothing is impossible when you are determined to put your passion to work to serve your purpose in your heart.
